Description: Adolescents and young adults are experiencing fast-growing rates of opioid overdose and hospitalization, yet have the lowest rates of access to treatment. In this session, CA Bridge will share learnings from its small pilot to improve access to MAT for young people (ages 12 to 26). This “Boot Camp” series will provide specialized training and networking opportunities for hospital champions. Sessions will focus on changing the standard of care for substance use disorders, including clinical guidance for MAT, and health equity for underrepresented populations. Modeled on the CA Bridge implementation toolkit, these monthly training sessions will run from November 2020 through May 2021.

Description: Most physicians are not currently treating substance use disorder with buprenorphine, and those that are often limit their practice to one quick start method. This training will help providers determine if a patient with opioid use disorder in the emergency department (ED) is appropriate for buprenorphine induction, along with successful dosing strategies. Ensure your hospital’s medication for addiction treatment (MAT) program is up and running with this online training session. Providers will learn best practices for treating patients with buprenorphine in the emergency department.

This features CA Bridge experts discussing their predictions about the opioid crisis in 2023 and discussing fentanyl use. The goal is to help clinical providers and patient navigators better understand the current landscape of the opioid epidemic in California (CA) and anticipate changes ahead.

This event is aimed to assist clinicians in meeting their training requirements and provide support for healthcare providers who are new to prescribing Buprenorphine. One of CA Bridge’s core pillars is ensuring low-barrier access to evidence-based treatment with buprenorphine for opioid use disorder. As our work continues to expand to more hospitals throughout the state, we still encounter clinicians and nurses who remain unfamiliar or uncomfortable with the evidence behind medication for addiction treatment (MAT). This training assists clinicians in meeting training requirements and provides support for healthcare providers who are relatively new to prescribing buprenorphine. Clinicians will benefit from a review of fundamental MAT basics.

In addition, with dynamic changes in the illicit drug landscape – the continued rise of fentanyl and carfentanil, as well as contaminants like xylazine – clinicians previously prescribing buprenorphine may have hesitations with buprenorphine dosing in the context of the evolving street drug supply. This training supports clinicians in addressing all of these concerns.
